I stumbled upon a great entrepreneur video today by Simon Sinek on why people buy things. So many companies sell backwards and focus on their product first and communicating why their product is so great. Why is it that brands like Apple have been so successful when they have access to the same resources as their competitors?
Great brands like Apple sell from the inside out and focus of Who they are an What they Believe. They sell Why they do it and put less emphasis on the product itself – great computer, phone or whatever. Customers connect with Who and Why and not What you Do.
Simon has a great book Start with Why and I highly recommend it.
As an entrepreneur you must make sure that you have a Belief statement and be able to communicate Why you are doing what you do. You should not go to market telling customers that you have a great product and they should buy from you because you have a great widget that is a better or cheaper. Customers want to know Why you do what you Do and you must Passionately communicate this.
I thank Simon Sinek for sharing this outstanding insight and I highly recommend you visit his website and watch the video below.
Simon says “The Goal is to do business with people who believe what you believe”.
