I caught up with Andrew Beaton Co-Founder of Musicsesh.com today and learned about their exciting new web business for music lovers, both students and instructors. Andrew got the idea as he is a musician and found it terribly expensive to get a higher education in music and then find a way to make a living to pay for it. Andrew said “You can easily walk away from one of these better known universities with $150,000 in student loans and not everyone is going to be John Mayer”.
Musicsesh, based in the Boston MA area is currently in beta, but will launch later this spring offering a web platform for students to learn from hundreds of music instructors via live streaming with classroom style interaction. This platform also provides an awesome way for experienced musicians to teach and earn extra income from the comfort of their home or studio.
Musicsesh.com is offering an extremely attractive business model for instructors paying 90% of the lesson fees and 50% of any ad revenue on the instructors pages. Instructors are also provided full creative freedom and they control the price of their lessons.
I believe this service will also be a great benefit to music students looking for a low cost avenue to learn from the comfort of their home, while still allowing full interaction with their instructor via video streaming technology.
Musicsesh is forecasting 40,000 users on their service by October – December of 2011 and they will be announcing some big partnerships over the coming weeks.
