I visited Ringgold GA yesterday, which is about 20 minutes southeast of Chattanooga, TN and was stunned by the miles of destruction from tornadoes touching down last week. It just didn’t make sense that tornadoes could do so much damage in an area that is surrounded by such hilly and mountainous terrain.
There was massive destruction of homes, businesses, vehicles and trees – I saw one large area where hundreds of trees were completely wiped away on the ridge of a mountain – it looked surreal.
Below is a video created by James Harrison and Drew Belz with Nooga.com documenting this disaster and showing the resiliency of the residents. One resident commented that the town has always been worried about a tornado coming through and bouncing around like a pinball machine and this is a pretty accurate description of how the area looks.
The people of Ringgold have amazing faith and they will recover and come back much stronger. I observed many volunteers on the ground helping and I understand FEMA will be setting up disaster recovery centers early this week and there will be assistance from SBA and others.
Hundreds of tornadoes ravaged the South last week showing just how fragile life is and we are praying for all those effected by these disasters.
